A second surgery has been scheduled for October 22. After surgery, there will be a
three month rest period.

Krista’s surgery went well today. A large bone chip was removed from her right elbow.
June 11, 2002
A CAT scan today reveled a small bone chip in Krista's elbow. Surgery
will be performed on July 12 to remove the bone fragment.

Krista's elbow is real sore again. Her elbow will be put into a cast on
January 31. She will have to wear it for three to six weeks. She will miss
the last two meets of the preseason.

Krista has been moved up to Level 6.

State meet. Krista did great. She was awarded two medals. One medal on the vault and
one medal on the beam. She also scored a season high in the all-around.

News article from Oakland Tribune.November 7, 2001 GYMNASTICS HOH performs well: The Head Over Heels Gymnastics club of Oakland got strong performances last weekend during the Zone 5 Championships in Concord. Jeanine Henly scored firsts on both the bars (9.225) and beam (8.750) to finish second all-around (34.275) and lead Head Over Heels to a third-place team finish. Teammate Megan Litrownik had thirds on the bars and floor to finish fourth all-around (34.025) while Christa Whitney used a second on the beam to claim sixth all-around (33.625). Mya Sendowski was seventh (33.075). Amber Steinmetz was one of the three Head Over Heels athletes to crack the top seven at Level 6 for 12-year-olds. Steinmetz was second on the beam and third all-around at 34.150, while Jessica Boatner got a second on the vault and was forth all-around at 33.975. Caitlin Birch was third on the beam and seventh all-around with a 33.350 score. Head Over Heels finished fourth among teams at Level 5. Kelsey Tom was second on the bars and third on both the beam and floor exercises, taking second all-around (33.925) at Level 5 for 12-year-olds. Krista Baum got a second on the beam and finished third (33.575) all-around, and Krista Cruff grabbed fifth (32.925). Krista placed 5th All-around in the Zone meet with a 32.925. She qualifies for the
State meet that will be held November 17th and 18th at Emery High School in

News article from Oakland Tribune.October 30, 2001 Gymnastics Head Over Heels club wins: The Head Over Heels Gymnastics Team of Emeryville won its fourth meet of the year when it took the recent Harvest Moon Invitational. The team scored 105.550 points at Level 6 for all age divisions, outdistancing Gold Star (103.125), Peninsula (102.250), Fox (98.075) and Gymtowne (96.275) clubs. The team -- which consisted of Caitlin Birch, Jessica Boatner, Jeanine Henly, Megan Litrownik, Vanessa Lo, Amber Steinmetz and Christa Whitney -- had winning totals for the vault (27.275), bars (26.750) and floor exercise (25.875) as well as finishing second on the beam (25.650) to Goldstar (25.775). Individually, Steinmetz was the all-around champion in the 12-year-old division with 35.050 points. She was first on the beam (9.050) and floor (8.800), second on the vault (9.000) and tied for fourth on the bars (8.200). Boatner was second in the floor exercise (8.600) and bars (8.750). Birch, with a first on the vault (9.025) and a third on the bars (8.250) was fourth overall, while Megan Moss was ninth (31.350) and Shifira De Benedictis-Kennner was 10th (29.900). Litrownik finished third on bars (8.825) and tied for third in the floor exercise (8.475) to take fourth all-around in the 13-year-old bracket. Henly used a first on the bars (9.175) to finish fifth all-around, while Lo got a second on the vault (9.250) and took seventh. Juliane Polpelka was ninth. Head Over Heels finished third in Level 5 for all divisions, as Krista Baum, Corey Chin, Krista Cruff, Lena Elingboe, Julie Ong and Rachel Ruggles combined for 103 points. Elingboe was second all-around in the 10-year-old group with 34.700 points. She had first on the vault (8.850) and a second on the floor (8.750). Baum was second all-around (33.200) in the 12-and-over division, getting a first on the floor with an 8.800. Cruff had a first in the vault at 8.500 and was third all-around (33.050), while Kelsey Tom had a second on the vault (8.450) and was fourth all-around (32.250). Krista Cruff has been cleared by the doctor to compete.

Krista has been struggling with a bad right elbow. Despite this injury,
she competed at the Judges cup in Sacramento and qualified for the Zone
meet in November. The doctor says that she needs to rest her elbow for six weeks.
So, her next competition may not be until October.
August 1, 2001
Krista Cruff is now in her first full season of competitive gymnastics. She hopes
to score a 31 during the season. Doing so will qualify her for a berth in
Zone meet (November 3, 2001).
